Pay what you can seminar series

New for 2025!

Join us on Wednesday evenings for a 6-part seminar series covering a wide array of topics, see below for a more in-depth look into each workshop!

All dates are open to all on a pay-what-you-can basis, use code 'PWYC' to register for free.

We are very excited to host these workshops and hope to see you there!

PWYC Week 1: it's 2025... and it's snowing

Four season biking can seem daunting, it can it can feel like there are soooo many more variables at play annnnnd you’ve got to deal with the cold.

Well, we want to tell you that riding in the winter doesn't have to be so scary and it can actually be pretty fun ??.

This seminar will be an intro to winter riding; we will talk about the gear you need (and the gear you don’t), converting your bike into a winter bike, safety while riding in the winter, and navigating the snowy roads of Ottawa/Gatineau.

Join us to discuss and explore all things winter bikes !

pwyc Week 2: pinches and punctures

Flats, they suck, but they happen.

When a bike shop isn't nearby we want you to feel confident diagnosing what caused the flat, remedying the problem, and changing a tube.

We will discuss how flats happen, what tools are required to fix a flat, where to store these tools on your bike, the proper method to fix a flat, and how to prevent a flat from happening.

We also want to briefly talk about tubeless and how to quickly fix a tubeless puncture before all your sealant runs out.

pwyc week 3: sore butt and numb hands, how to fix it

Do you ever get off your bike and feel like you've lost a flight to a gorilla? Do you think your bike was designed for developing chronic pain and a grumpy attitude ?

Well, this session may be for you.

Bikes can be relatively (if not really) comfortable to ride. Often with a few small adjustments your bike can go from unbearable to ride, to a lazy boy on a magic carpet.

We are not bike fitters and won't be giving any specific advice on measurement but we will talk about simple ways to make your bike fit your body better.

pwyc week 4: the thingy attached to the other thingy

Bikes are simple machines and an artful approach to engineering but sometimes they can be dang confusing!

We want to help you better understand the parts that make up your bicycle and have a linear way of thinking about how they interact with one another.

If you can effectively pinpoint where a problem is happening and why it may be happening it will save you time and money in the long run PLUS make you many cool bike friends along the way.

pwyc week 5: New bike day?

Bikes change every year and there is seemingly always a new piece of tech that makes our current bikes look obsolete.

We want to tell you this is not necessarily true, your current bike is rad and will always be rad.

In some cases, a bike is too far gone, and doesn't make financial sense to repair. We will go over assessing a bike, what to look out for, how to know what needs to be repaired vs. replaced, and when (sad as it may be) to pull the plug.

In this session we want to talk about the pros and cons of buying a new bike vs. upgrading your current bike. If you’re thinking about getting a new rig this spring or giving your current bike some tlc, this is the session for you!

pwyc week 6: click, click, klunk

In this session we will be putting the work stands to good use to help you understand what adjustments you can make mid bike ride if you notice your shifting is slow or your brakes aren't engaging well.

We will also talk about when it is critical for you to bring your bike into the shop.

We believe it is important for every cyclist to know when something is “rideable” or on the verge of catastrophic failure.

If you attended the The Thingy Attached to the Other Thingy and the Punctures and Pinches sessions this is a great addition.

coming soon: fat bike group rides!
