For some bikes are a hobby, for others they are a primary or secondary mode of transport, and for many they are both. Cycling in general can be very expensive; we recognize that there is often a price attached to gaining valuable information regarding maintaining your own bike. For some this price may be a barrier to developing the skills required to confidently work on your bike. At Quick Cranks we believe that learning about your bike and spending time working on it is almost as fun as riding it (sometimes even more fun!). We have chosen to offer a “Pay What You Can” series that is designed to introduce participants to basic bike mechanics, 4 season riding, and the language to effectively communicate what may need to be adjusted on their bike. Our hope is that at the end of this 6 week series the participants will have a deeper understanding of how their bike operates, have a sense of curiosity about how to further develop their new skills, and have a greater sense of community in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Some FAQ: What exactly does pay what you can mean? Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. These seminars are set at $10, but if this doesn't match your budget you can use code 'PWYC' to get the workshop for free. If you'd like to pay a different amount, you can do so on the day of the seminar. Suggested registration cost is $5-15 ***If you would like to register for multiple seminars at a time, you may also select "Pay by Invoice" at checkout, and this will allow you to decide how much, if anything, you'd like to pay for your registration. The location: Our bike shop is at 1089 Somerset St W, Ottawa. Parking/Transit: There is free street parking out front. By public transit, we are steps away from Bayview Station. Bring your bike in-store if you bike in. What do you need to bring? Some clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. It’s important that clothing is tucked in to avoid getting caught on anything. A hair tie for those with long hair. Leave the jewelry at home, your hands will be getting dirty! A notebook and pen to take notes! *Note that you do not need to bring your bike for this series!! How will the class work? This seminar series will be hosted by one or two of our experienced mechanics. The first part will be a prepared presentation, with visuals and some hands-on learning. This will be followed by a group discussion and reflection. What’s the schedule? Our doors open at 6:15 and the workshops will run until about 8:30
