Courses Offered
New in 2025!
We are very excited to announce two new workshop series this winter that will alternate Wednesday evenings at our Hintonburg location!
The first is a deep dive into our Novice Maintenance course. Split into 7 separate workshops, the Intermediate Bike Mechanics Winter Series is one topic a night for 6 weeks, with a wrap up Q&A catchall at the end.
The second is a series of seminars designed to be an entry point into different cycling topics. These events will be on a Pay-What-You-Can basis, and will cover topics like winter cycling, how to change a flat, how to make the most of the bike you have, and how to speak 'bike talk.' We love working on bikes, talking about bikes, and meeting like-minded folks! We hope that these PWYC Seminars will provide a low-barrier way to dig deeper into the cycling world.
Visit the pages below for more info! We hope to see you there!
Intermediate bike mechanics winter series
The purpose of this series is to provide members of our community an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how their bikes operate and the confidence to make intermediate level repairs. Our team has chosen to offer a session during weekday evenings to accommodate those who want to participate in our full day weekend training but have conflicting schedules. Our hope is that the participants in these workshops will roll into the 2025 cycling season with a new set of skills that further connect them to their love of riding. The series will include seven sessions covering a variety of topics. There will be six spots available in each session, participants can register for individual sessions or the entire series. To attend the final “Ask a Mech” session, participants must have attended two previous sessions.
Pay what you can seminar series
For some bikes are a hobby, for others they are a primary or secondary mode of transport, and for many they are both. Cycling in general can be very expensive; we recognize that there is often a price attached to gaining valuable information regarding maintaining your own bike. For some this price may be a barrier to developing the skills required to confidently work on your bike. At Quick Cranks we believe that learning about your bike and spending time working on it is almost as fun as riding it (sometimes even more fun!). We have chosen to offer a “Pay What You Can” series that is designed to introduce participants to basic bike mechanics, 4 season riding, and the language to effectively communicate what may need to be adjusted on their bike. Our hope is that at the end of this 6 week series the participants will have a deeper understanding of how their bike operates, have a sense of curiosity about how to further develop their new skills, and have a greater sense of community in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
